    Prices for 800 essential drugs, including paracetamol, expected to jump by 10.7% from April

    Essential drugs used to treat fever, infections, heart illness, high blood pressure, skin problems, and anaemia will now be more expensive. Paracetamol, Phenobarbitone, Phenytoin Sodium, Azithromycin, Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride, and Metronidazole are examples of such medications. Digital Desk: The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority of India announced a 10.7 percent increase in the Wholesale Price Index of essential drugs including paracetamol for the calendar year 2021 compared to the same time in 2020 on Friday. This implies that the cost of over 800 scheduled medications on the National List of Essential Medicines, which are needed to treat the vast majority of common disorders, would rise by 10.7 percent starting April 1. "Based on the WPI data provided by the office of the Economic Advisor, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the annual change in WPI works out as 10.76607% during the calendar year 2021 over the corresponding period in 2020," the NPPA notice said.
